Carrauntoohil - A walk and a climb in Kerry

Friday, May 1st, 2009

I was searching the web today for more information on walking holidays in Ireland for one of our visitors to Glencar House.
I came across this excellent clip from “Walking Ireland” about climbing Carrauntoohill.
Carrauntoohil, in the MacGillicuddy Reeks, is the highest mountain in Ireland and attracts thousands of visitors each year.

This clip provides a great overview and guide to your adventure on Carrauntoohill.

Glencar House Hotel is the perfect base for your adventure on Carrauntoohil.

See the White Tailed Eagle in Kerry, Ireland

Tuesday, April 14th, 2009

Despite a recent incident in which a White Tailed Eagle was found poisoned, people still flock to the mountains of County Kerry to see these spectacular birds.

Over the last 2 years, 35 eaglets(15 in 2007 and 20 in 2008) have been released into the wild in and near Killarney National Park.  The eagle chicks were collected under licence from nests in Norway and flown to Kerry.

Glencar House is the perfect base to explore the mountains and forests in search of a glimpse of the Eagles.

All the birds have been fitted with coloured tags on their wings and carry radio-transmitters that allow them to be tracked in the wild. The chicks are being reared with minimum human contact and being monitored closely by teams of experts from the National Parks & Wildlife Service and The Golden Eagle Trust Ltd.

Why not take a hike up Carrauntoohil or visit the Glencar House Hotel for lunch on your visit.
