Salmon Fishing near Killarney - Huge catch so far this year

Wednesday, June 10th, 2009

2009 looks set to be one of the most memorable years on the Upper Caragh River for Salmon fishing.

So far this year, well in excess of 100 salmon, as well as numerous Trout have been caught on the Upper Caragh River - testament to the to all the hard work being carried out on the river and due to the salmon hatchery which was established back in the spring of 2001.
The hatchery has made it possible to release several thousand smolts and some 20,000 salmon fry into the Upper Caragh River each year.

See the White Tailed Eagle in Kerry, Ireland

Tuesday, April 14th, 2009

Despite a recent incident in which a White Tailed Eagle was found poisoned, people still flock to the mountains of County Kerry to see these spectacular birds.

Over the last 2 years, 35 eaglets(15 in 2007 and 20 in 2008) have been released into the wild in and near Killarney National Park.  The eagle chicks were collected under licence from nests in Norway and flown to Kerry.

Glencar House is the perfect base to explore the mountains and forests in search of a glimpse of the Eagles.

All the birds have been fitted with coloured tags on their wings and carry radio-transmitters that allow them to be tracked in the wild. The chicks are being reared with minimum human contact and being monitored closely by teams of experts from the National Parks & Wildlife Service and The Golden Eagle Trust Ltd.
